Brittany K. Allen is a Brooklyn-based actor and writer. Some of her plays are Redwood (Ensemble Studio Theatre, Portland Center Stage, Jungle Theater, Black Repertory Theatre of KC; Kilroys List 2017 & 2020), The Joy of Painting (Clubbed Thumb Winterworks), The Credibility Gap (fka: Happy Happy Joy Joy) (Development: Public Theater, WPLab), Ball Change (Development: Manhattan Theatre Club/Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Cape Cod Theatre Project) and True Right (Ars Nova’s ANTFest, co-developed with Adin Lenahan and Gemma Kaneko). Her plays have been developed at Ensemble Studio Theatre, Studio Theatre, and KC Rep, among other places, and her radio plays and scripted podcasts have been produced by Audible/Fresh Produce Media, United Artists, Woolly Mammoth/Telephonic Literary Union, and Playing On Air. She currently holds commissions from Playwrights Horizons, Clubbed Thumb, and Portland Center Stage, and is an alumna of EST/Youngblood, the Emerging Writers Group at the Public Theater, and the Dorothy Strelsin New American Writers Group at Primary Stages. Awards include the Daryl Roth Creative Spirit Award, the Dramatists Guild Foundation Comedic Playwriting Prize, and a Van Lier New Voices Playwriting Fellowship via the (late) Lark. She is currently a resident playwright at Colt Coeur.

Her writing life has been supported by fellowships to MacDowell and Ucross, and scholarships to Bread Loaf and the Sewanee Writers Conference, where she teaches on the playwriting faculty. Her prose has been published in the Kilroys Anthology, McSweeney's Quarterly Concern, Epiphany, Catapult, and elsewhere.

As an actor, recent credits include the off-Broadway world premieres of Abe Koogler’s Deep Blue Sound (Clubbed Thumb) and Talene Monahon’s The Good John Proctor (Bedlam Theatre, New Yorker’s “Best Theatre of 2023”); Redwood (Ensemble Studio Theatre, Portland Center Stage), Gloria: A Life (DR2), and New Saloon’s Minor Character (Invisible Dog; New York Innovative Theatre Award for Best Ensemble). She’s developed new plays with/at Clubbed Thumb, Atlantic Theater Company, New Georges, The Civilians, Primary Stages, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Joe’s Pub, The Flea, New York Stage and Film, The Bushwick Starr, and the Dennis & Victoria Ross Foundation, and old plays with Classic Stage Company. Her voice work has been featured on Playing On Air, and in Next Chapter Podcasts’ Henry V. BFA, NYU-Tisch.

She is currently at work on a new narrative podcast collaboration with Fresh Produce/Audible, and her first novel.
